Rammer Jammer,Uncle Tom & Can Con

Sweet, The big corporate bookstore finally got my shipment of the Bama Fan's bible: Warren St. John's Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer. I'm only 30 pages in, but so far so good. Bascially lifelong Tide fan, St. John travels with a bunch of hardcore Bama fans in their RVs for an entire season. Reminds me a lot of Nick Hornby's account of balancing his two loves (soccer team Arsenal and some lady), in Fever Pitch. Which of course was badly re-made into a Red Sox film, starring good ole Jimmy Fallon and the lovely Drew Barrymore. Basically they are both told from the fan's point of view. Here's an excerpt and also check out St.John's blog.

Now to the Dynasty. I was sad to see Prothro and Darby leave however I managed to get the #10 recruiting class, #2 in the SEC! My favorite player in the class so far is a DE from London , Ontario, Quentin Rawls. He wasn't even a target until week 4 and then he signed instantly. The plan was to redshirt Rawls but the 4 star Canadian recruit came out wtih an 84 overall rating. So I had to start him(yes I'm biased) and he has had a decent first two games. Rawls made some key tackles in the Maryland game. Oh ya the season, Bama was ranked 30th so I scheduled Colorado and Maryland, also ranked in the 30s. Colorado was scheduled because Paul McNab always uses them in NCAA, and he sucks major balls. I managed to squeak by 31-28 with a last second FG. The Maryland game was a bit tougher, (Maryland being the school that Namath originally signed with, until he was academically ineligible) their D Line and LB core made it difficult to generate any sort of running attack, yet the Tide prevailed with another last second FG, winning 13-10. So 2-0 in 2007 and more importantly a Canadian Freshman in the starting line up.

In other news

- in a survey done at work, only 4 of 27 people knew the term "Uncle Tom", yet many found Uncle Tom's Bugalow quite amusing
- former Ohio State star, Maurice Clarett was tasered
- watched some Can Con last night in Instant Star. Cheesy, but not bad. Glad to see Canadian Production values have risen since North of 60
- also I must say that I am quite hooked on Rockstar Supernova now, yuk. decent spin on idol, still retarded, but man Tommy Lee is such a nice guy. Go back to college!

cheers,
Roll Tide

Bama loses Peach, but great day at the Track and ASU Cheer

VANCOUVER BC - I will start off with some good news first, Spaghetti Mouse (pictured left) put down all critics and ended up winning the $100,000 BC Cup today (and also won me my trip money to Tucson and LA in September). It was a great day at Hastings Race Course and perhaps the highlight of the day was when a drunken Broadway Mylosh and Company serenaded Anti-Toronto radio broadcaster David Pratt with chants of Go Leafs Go. Okay back to Football
ATLANTA, GA - My first Dynasty year in NCAA 07 on PS2 is done, and I have to say that it was mediocre at best. The Namath led Crimson Tide finished the year 8-5 with a close 27-24 loss to Florida St. in the Peach Bowl. Bama blew a 17-3 halftime lead with FSU senior Lorenzo Booker running for 154 yards and 2 TDs, and also added a REC TD. Bama Senior star RB Darby was held to 81 YRDs, however WR Tyrone Prothro ended his career with 6 REC for 146 YRDs and 2 TDs. J.P. Wilson was subpar throwing for 234 YRDs, however he had 3 INTs, 2 of which were in the 4th quarter. Bama had a chance to tie the game in the closing seconds, but Kicker Jason Christensen missing a FG for 48 YRDs. However with more games under his helm, Parker looks ready to lead the Tide in 2007. Certainly 8-5 will not be acceptable in Namath's 2nd year as coach. Final stats for my 2006 Dynasty will be put on a separate page later, but below are some highlights from 2006

- upset of #1 Florida in the Swamp
- sophmore Center Antoine Caldwell wins Rimington Award and Best OL Award. Named 1st Team AA & will return for JR year.
- senior DB Ramzee Robinson named 1st Team AA with a solid 6 INTs
- junior DB Simeon Castille named 2nd Team AA
- Darby rushes for 1639 yards and 19 TDs
- Prothro breaks several school records with 71 recpetions 1277 yards and 7 TDs
- IRON BOWL VICTORY OVER #1 RANKED AND UNDEFEATED AUBURN !!!!!!!!!

In other news, Arizona State, with home advantage in the National Title, defeated Louisville 38-28 finishing an impressive 13-0. Arizona State of course best known for their eye candy, made news earlier this year when ex-cheerleader Courtney Simpsonused her school cheerleading outfit in an adult film. Currently Arizona State is looking into any legal violations caused on behalf of Ms. Simpson. Please note that picture above right is not Ms. Simpson, but rather ASU cheerleader Shaina Lawson who was nominated by athlon sports for cheerleader of the year. Yay! She is not a pornstar. Also not a pornstar, but just as aesthetically pleasing is ASU star golfer Alissa Kucska. What does this have to do with football? I dunno, who cares they're both hot. Go Sun Devils (sorry Chris and Tony you know I love U of Arizona better!)

No NC for Auburn, Bama Wins Iron Bowl

TUSCALOOSA - In what was seen as a disappointing first season for the rookie coach with losses to Hawaii at home and only 1 road win, Alabama Legend Joe Namath may have saved his job with a 17-7 Iron Bowl victory over #1 ranked and undefeated Auburn. Much credit should be given to the Alabama D, who shut down eventual Heisman winner Courtney Taylor to only 2 receptions for 42 yards. What was even more impressive was that star RB, Kenny Irons only ran for 11 yards. Darby clearly won the battle of the Ken's running for an impressive 147 yards and 2 TDs and earning Iron Bowl MVP honors. John Parker Wilson, controlled the pace of the game as he was a solid 12-17 with 152 yards, proving all along that he should have been starter from Day 1.

Zooming a couple of weeks ahead

Alabama is now headed to the Peach Bowl for a match-up against Florida St. The SEC title game featured two teams that could not beat the Tide, Florida and Auburn. Also noteworthy is that Auburn and Florida were both ranked #1 when they faced Alabama. The Gators took the SEC title with the return of Chris Leak, winning 22-17. Clearly the heartbreaking Iron Bowl defeat still lingered in Auburn's mind. Courtney Taylor ended up winning the Heisman, but clearly he accepted his award in disappointment. Bama Sophmore center Antoine Caldwell took home some hardware, by winning the Rimington for best Center along with the Best OL award. So its off to the A-T-L for a match against FSU, Roll Tide

Recruiting

The Iron Bowl victory resulted in three key recruits signing with the Tide. Tuscaloosa product, C Casey Maynard, will be a key back up next year to Caldwell (assuming he doesn't bolt for the NFL). Meadowbrook, Alabama's Derek Green will fill an immediate need at FS and Mississippi standout Zach Saint Preux will add depth to the D-Line. Auburn managed to land the #1 CB in Joel Roberson out of Georgia.

As for Broadway Mylosh, he finally has a day off and is gonna enjoy his Iron Bowl victory and is gonna watch some NASCAR and play Tennis & some ball with Jorden. here enjoy this Iron Bowl intro.

LSU Heartbreak, Iron Bowl Preview

With 13 seconds left in the game and a 21-17 lead, Bama thought they were coming out of Baton Rogue with an upset over #19 LSU. Senior Tyrone Prothro had already broken the Alabama single season record in receiving yards as he had 12 receptions and 214 yards in the game. John Parker Wilson was out to prove Coach Namath wrong for not making him the starter as Guillon was pulled out early after throwing two interceptions. All J.P. Wilson did in relief was throw for 302 yards and 3 TDs, including what proved to be the game winning TD to fullback Tim Castille. However it would be LSU's JaMarcus Russell and his 82 yard game winning TD pass to Dwayne Bowe that would prove to be the highlight of the night. LSU 24, ALABAMA 21

The Tide are now 7-4 with 11-0 #1 ranked Auburn up next in the Iron Bowl. Namath can redeem himself by ruining Auburn's march to a national title. However it will be tough with WR Courtney Taylor who is the favorite to win the Heisman. Below is a comparison of the key playes

Auburn

Courtney Taylor WR, 73 REC 1141 YRDs 17 TDs
Kenny Irons RB, 1697 YRDs 16 TDs

Bama

Tyrone Prothro WR, 62 REC 1100 YRDs 5 TDs
Kenneth Darby RB, 1411 YRDs 17 TDs

Tide @ (7-3); Homecoming Weekend Nabs Recruits

First off I just want to say that Sony Europe sucks arse. And you know what, so do fireworks. What's the big deal and why are people flocking like zombies to watch them. Anyways back to my Bama Dynasty. There were a lot of ups and downs since my last report and here they are in point form since I forgot how to construct a proper paragraph

Ouch! Key loss to Volunteers

Looks like karma got to me with my praise of Ole Miss, as the good ole' #20 ranked Volunteers of Tennessee narrowly beat the Tide 24-21. This was Senior Prothro's best game, statistically he only had 6 RECs and 92 YRDs for one TD, however all of those receptions were key 3rd and 4th down catches. But in the end timing became key, and the Vols won with a last second field goal.

Homecoming Week Nabs Three 4 Star Recruits

The game against Florida International at the beginning of the season may have seemed insignificant however Bama's 48-7 victory and a weekend of homecoming festivities were enough to convince three key recruits to sign with the Tide. In state product Seth Bailey was the #1 ranked DE out of his JR year, had the Tide at the top of list and was an easy commit. Also with the Tide of the top of his list was MLB Eric Thompson of Dade City, Florida. Thankfully Thompson's visit to Tuscaloosa had nothing in common with a former Florida high school star linebacker's visit to Gainesville a couple years ago. However Thompson does have cornrows which scares some older fans who are still upset over SEC integration. The most suprising commit though was Sheffield Alabama's Chad Arnold. Arnold, the #1 rated QB in Alabama had Auburn and Florida State at the top of his list. So what changed the Tide of Arnold's decision? Well last year's homecoming queen was his personal tour guide for the weekend, wink wink. Also Arnold has dreadlocks, which upsets some older fans. Off the field the future looks bright but so did the scrub action on the field. True Freshman Mike McCoy made had first NCAA reception, which was a 30 YRD bomb from Sophmore John Parker Wilson. Too SWEET!

Mississippi State Blown Out

The Tide had an easy 55-3 victory over Miss St. in preparation for two key games against LSU in Baton Rogue and #1 ranked Auburn, who sits at 10-0. No key details, but here are two Bama related NCAA videos. The first is two kids getting hyped up before playing a UAB / Bama game. Gotta love the big fella's dance moves and the jug of OJ in his hands. And here is a sweet video from the 360 version of NCAA.
