Al Strachan = Moron; Fridays = Drunk Freshman; Bama = 5-2

Drink on Freshman girls! Drink on! Tonight marks the first Friday at college for many Americans and we all know that means a lot of trouble. Cheers to your first Friday girls. Okay to business, despite my "busy" schedule, I found time to play two games last night and one this morning. They were all close games, here's quick recaps.

#21 Bama at #17 Arkansas
The Hogs have always been a tough matchup, but I have a sweet DL and they have a QB named Dick. This game was back forth until the 4th Q when my DE Rawls made two key sacks in Arkansas's first loss of the year
Bama 33, Arkansas 24

Bama #17 at Georgia
Matthew Stafford was injured (he destroyed me last year) and I jumped out to a 24-7 lead at the half. Then I got lazy and next thing I realize the game is tied at 24. J.P. Wilson was useless in the 4th quarter, finishing the game with 5 INTs!!!. He did however break Croyle's school record for career TDs this game. Nevertheless UGA stepped it up and handed Namath's boys their second loss of the year.
UGA 31, Bama 27

#9 Notre Dame at Bama (unranked)
After two tough road games, it was nice to be home. It was Catholics vs. Confederates for the second year in a row, but this time the South would prevail. Mooching karma points from Lander's Bowl victory over UND in his Dynasty. J.P. Wilson erased his 5 INTs from the UGA game throwing 301 yards for 3 TDs. All TD passes went to WR McCoy who finished the game with 9 receptions for 186 yards. Take that Pope Benedict and your Da Vizzzyy Code
Bama 41, The Vatican 24 (Bama's back in the TOP 25 at #23)

Now for those of us who watch Hockey Night in Canada, we all know from watching Hotstove that Al Strahan is not really the brightest person in the world. While I find his stupidity amusing at times, one must wonder why he still has a job. Tis a pity that no one has uploaded former Canucks GM Brian Burke's rant on Strahan on youtube yet. In an article this morning in the Toronto Sun Al Strachan now puts his hockey expertise on what Maple Leaf sports should do with the Toronto Raptors. He claims that the Leafs should get rid of the Raptors as it will save money to better the team and lower ticket prices. Uhhhh there's a salary cap in the NHL I believe and yup the Leafs lowering ticket prices, yup that'll happen. C'mon we sold out the house when Alan Bester was net. Thankfully Steve Buffery knocks some sense into Strachan and adds in a rebuttal

Go Leafs, Go Raptors and yes I do hate my favorite LA couple for being able to watch Two a Days before me. Enjoy the weekend folks, I won't, due to company policy I'll be working :)

Overlooking Ok State & The Black Six

With ranked Arkansas, Georgia and UND coming up on the schedule, I looked at the Oklahoma St game as a tune up before the big prize fight. I guess I forgot that they were undefeated and also had a 99 overall QB in Bobby Reid. My running game was non-existant but I still had a 17-10 lead going into the 4th quarter. Who would have known that Reid would go nuts (I even triple spyed him) Ok St scores 13 points in a 23-17 upset over #12 Alabama. Bama is now 3-1

So I decided to drown out my sorrows by watching the season finale of the Hills. Very unimpressed with LC for choosing Malibu over Paris. Whats up with all the summer movies telling people to choose family and love over careers, Click, The Devil Wears Prada, Clekrs 2. BOOOOOO! Bad message for the kids. So two strikes for Mylosh on the night. To cheer myself up I finally decided to watch The Black Six, which I bought at a discount store for $1.99.Click on image for a better pic. It stars a bunch of football players (Mean Joe Greene, Mercury Morris and Gene Washington!) as ex nam vets who cruise around their bikes. But Bubba (Gene Washington) finds out his brother Eddie was murdered for dating a white girl, played in an oscar worthy performance by the lovely Cindy Daly. Now the ONLY unrealistic thing in the movie was that Eddie had a football scholarship as a Kicker. Let's just say that the Black Six literary take the HOUSE DOWN. There is a rad fight scene at the end with racist bikers and a fabulous ending. Buy this if you see it in stores or just ask me to borrow it.

- keeping with the Jewish love theme of this blog, Jets RB Kevan Barlow apologizes for his Mike Nolan / Hitler comparison
- i've always had dreams of playing for the Blue Jays, since that won't happen I'll have to live vicariously through this fellow
- also ESPN Page 2 has a good write up on the ratings in the Madden. Yes I heard about the fatigue thing. All I can say about the ratings crew for Madden is that I don't know ya, but I'm pretty sure they are the coolest people in the world :)

Freshman

In Tuscaloosa classes began today, while this past Monday the annual Bama Blast welcoming incoming freshman (non-football players) to what will hopefully be the best four years of their lives. As Taylor Townsend once said "They say there's no one older than a high school senior, but no one younger than a college freshman" Haha, how true this is. Late August (early Sept in Canada) marks a time when thousands of wide eyed freshman embark on journey through the lovely world of post secondary education. For most this will be the first time away from home, as well as the first time introduced to what will be their new best friend for the next four years. For a literary account on freshman corruption I recommend the poorly reviewed "I Am Charlotte Simmons", by Tom Wolfe. Who else but a 74 year old man, could tell the tale of an innocent keener, country girl losing her virginity at a frat party. Anyways this got me thinking of my own freshman from my 1st recruiting class in NCAA 07. Here's the progress of some notables from the 2007 class(year 2)so far.

Derek Green FS#5 Meadowbrook, AL (4*)
Namath's first commit In 1st year, he split time at FS with ATH Maurice Ward. Ward has since transferred to Louisiana Tech and Green remains a starter at FS

Tommy Jones G#2 Prichard, AL (5*)
Only 5 star recruit from class, was a backup Guard as a FR, now in 2008 as a SO starts at LG along side LT star Andre Smith. Prime reason why J.P. Wilson has an easy time throwing TDs this year

Jimmy Fernandez CB#10 Boca Raton, FL (4*)
I love this wealthy Dominican. Made key plays from the nickel in 2007, was the D MVP in the Spring Game and is now the impact player on D and one of the top DBs in the SEC as a sophmore. Viva Dominicana. Fernandez is also the main reason why Tego Calderon is all thats heard from the Tide locker room.

Quentin Rawls DE#5 London, ON CANADA (4*)
Started as a FR, was suspended two games for cheating on an exam, but in 2008 he is top rated player on the DL with a 90 rating. And he's Canadian so he kicks arse! He listens to Soca and Dancehall reggae, big ups.

Michael Poppinga OLB#1 Warner Robbins, GA (4*)
Started as FR, solid, nothing flashy. Yup he's white.

Greg Robertson SS#7 Fairhope, AL (4*)
Back up SS as a FR, but is now a force in the secondary. Made key tackles in the ASU and Kentucky games. Along with Derek Green, Bama looks to have one of the best safety tandems in the SEC

Let's All Hate Toronto; McCoy for Heisman

Finally the truth comes out. The lead story in Vancouver's 24 Magazine is on how Vancouverites are cold and there is even a lovely poll. Very true. Its not on the website but in the feeback section a reader replied saying that initially they seem friendly but deep down they are cold, whereas the reader experienced the opposite in Toronto and New York, where people seemed snobby at first but deep down they were good hearted. I don't know maybe its the good weather, the drivers, the education system, the infatuation with boarding culture (yes skateboards and snowboards breed arrogance, proven fact), or the fact that there are no black or jewish people in this city to keep locals in check, but I think we can all agree that what makes Vancouver great are the people that aren't from here and there sure are enough of us here. Staying along the same lines I can't believe I missed out on Toronto Appretiation Day at Robson Square. This was all organized by Rob Spence who is doing a documentary entitled "Let's All Hate Toronto"

Dynasty News

- Bama is sitting at 3-0 with victories in two close games beating #12 Arizona St 35-28 and Kentucky 31-23. With already 6 TDs in the season JR WR Mike McCoy is in the running for the Heisman. Tough road ahead with ranked Arkansas, Georgia and Notre Dame. But first a match against Oklahoma St with Texas High school legend Bobby Reid at QB.

Lastly I'd like to apologize to one of my readers (a Vancouver native who is alright) for failing to mention the Barfield incident yesterday. Keeping in with the theme of cool Vancouver people, a bartender at Toby's on Commercial and 12th by the name of Darcy looks like Autumn Reeser from the OC. She asked me for id then rubbed my head and blushed when she realized I was old enough to be her father. Can't wait for the new season. And Hills finale on MTV Canada tonite!!!!!

And here's your hump day video, this always puts me into a good mood (that and John Parker Wilson Touchdowns!!!!!)

Year 3 starts, Nazi Cuisine in India & Thank God she's 18

After pulling off the #14 recruiting class and returning most of my skill position players, I went into Year 3 of my Dynasty with Bama's highest ever preseason ranking at #15. So in week 2 I scheduled #12 Arizona St., who is 15-1 the last two years, their only loss being to Penn St. in last year's title game. But first an in-state tune up in Birmingham against UAB. The RVers need a short trip before the long journey to Arizona. Using Fresno St's playbook and focusing on the spread, Bama jumped out to a 21-0 lead at the half, but then I got lazy and was talking on the phone to some 17 year old I met at the Ball game and bam UAB tied it up. So I hung up the phone and J.P. Parker took control and threw two key touchdowns. Trying to erase last year's SEC high 19 INTs, Parker was stellar going 16-20 243 yards and 5 TDs. ZERO INTs! JR McCoy was his main target with 6 REC for 151 yards and 4 TDs.
Bama 38, UAB 21

In other news

- Ted Lilly broke Josh Gibbons's nose, Jim Rome's take on this brew hahaha this morning was funny.
- anti-semitism takes a bite in India
- after winning the starting position at ASU, QB Sam Keller left school
- watched Accepted last night and yes I will watch this a million times before I watch Snakes on a Plane. Hello! Irony was sooooooo two years ago. Bite me mass public. Anyways I was infatuated with the character of Monica played by Blake Lively. She looked like the same girl in Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants (uhhh i watched this with my little cousin, I swear!) and sure enough, she was. So I immediately IMDB'd her (ha "IMDB'd" I so internet savy) and sure enough it was her but more importantly she was born in 1987, that makes her 1 year older than my eldest niece, so sweet, its alright to be sexually attracted to Ms. Lively

2nd Season Fin: 9-4 #24 Ranking with Outback Loss

First off before talking about my Outback Bowl matchup vs. Michigan let me first introduce you to some of Outback Steakhouse's finest employees. My favorite is Miguel, but Shelly is cool too, I just don't like hanging out with her when she's drunk. She gets a bit crazy, if you know what I'm saying. Okay back to Outback bowl.

Tampa, FL - Michigan shut down the run, they had a sick SO JUCO from Utah (I tried to recruit him) and he was all over the place holding the Upchurch/ Coffee duo to under 100 yards. So I focused in on the passing game and Keith Brown closed out his career with an impressive 7 receptions for 146 yards. Bama was down 17-12 in the closing seconds and J.P. Wilson threw a long bomb to Brown, but he was stopped at the 5 yards line as time ran out. Very similar to the closing of the Titans /Rams Super Bowl ending. Wilson finished with 288 yards but no TDs. Despite the loss Namath's approval rating went through the roof (job security looks good). And with J.P. at QB, the Upchurch / Coffee rush duo, and promising players on D returning, the future looks bright for the Tide in Year 3
Michigan 17, Bama 12

end of season notes
- Bama finishes at 9-4 ranked #24 in coaches and media
- OU's Adrian Peterson wins the Heisman
- Penn St. wins National Title with a 35-30 victory over Arizona St.
- Arizona QB Tuitama (a pacific islander, ya!) passes for 3562 yards and 37 Tds, leading his team to a 7-6 record and a Car Care Bowl victory
- Bama nabs #1 H.S. WR Joel Thompson and Laguna Hills 4 star DT Brandon Crews (he is black)
- Bama C Caldwell bolts to NFL after back to back years as OLineman of the year
- stats page to come soon
- Roy Halladay wins his 16th game

KFed & Iron Bowl Victory

#21 Bama vs. Auburn - Auburn
Namath is 2 for 2 in the Iron Bowl. Though Auburn's trio of Freshman played well (QB Caudle, RB Tate, WR Hawthorne) they were no match for the experienced Tide in this defensive battle. J.P. Wilson finally had a game without an INT going 11-19 for 159 yards and 1 TD. MVP Honors go to SR MLB and captain, Matt Collins who had several defensive stops and a key INT.
Bama 22, Auburn 7

LSU went on to win the SEC title by beating Georgia 41 to 20. National title in New Orleans puts undefated Penn St up against undefeated and defending champ Arizona St. Next up for Bama: the Outback Bowl vs. Michigan. Which brings back fond memories post 2000 fungus hangover in a Montreal apartment, taking drinks whenever the Fed Ex ad appeared. (warning inside joke) "This guy is garbage" Yes Tom Brady and Shaun Alexander were all in that game. It was also the same season in which Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer takes place.

In other news

- defamer has posted a youtube video of a Kfed performance, (this one's for you landers, rock on christian soldier)
- just like the video game, it appears Leinart's heirs have no problem with accuracy in USC's Sunday night scrimmage
- this is a good list, on Alabama's top 5 personalities
- Oh and here is Alabama's most important student organization

Year 2 Iron Bowl Preview & Bama Cricket

Preview of 2007 Iron Bowl

#21 Alabama (8-3) @ Auburn (5-5)

Matchup will feature two Hoover, AL QBs. John Parker Wilson of high school powerhouse Hoover (Who will be featured on the upcoming MTV show Two a Days has had subpar year. He has the Bama season record for TDs however he has failed to produce in big games (UGA & LSU). Parker sits at 1944 yards 17 TDs and 18 INTs. Auburn has had a tough time working in redshirt freshman Neil Caudle who played QB for Spain Park in Hoover, but his sats are decent with 2056 yards and 17 TDs. Auburn SR RB Charles Stewart is injured however R-FR and Maryland H.S. legend Ben Tate is ready for his first big game. He has decent back up stats with 630 yards and 9 TDs. Bama is heavily favored however anyting can happen, last year Auburn went into the Iron Bowl undefeated and look what happened. Oh ya and Alabama has a Cricket club

Heh heh Bowl Tide, ha I'm soo funny

Key loss to LSU & Hipster Sightings

Sad, sad news. SEC West title is out of reach. Vandy was no problem, however WR Early Doucet (thank god he's graduating) and JaMarcus Russell were too much for me. Here's quick recaps

#19 Bama vs. Vandy - Nashville
This was just a tune up for a key SEC West tilt against LSU. Roy Upchurch ran for 140 yards while Coffee added in 80 and a TD. Not much to say here, except that the boys had a great time watching a Nashville Predators / Carolina Hurricanes tilt after the game.
Bama 32, Vandy 7

#18 Bama vs. #10 LSU - Tuscaloosa (Game of the week)
This was LSU domination from the start. J.P. Wilson did not step up going 8-17 with 129 yards, 1 TD and 2 INTs. The run game was useless as well with Upchurch and Coffee held to under 100 yards combined. I, errr I mean Joe Namath (yes I'm not taking responsibility for this loss) doubled Early Doucet the entire game, but he still managed 4 key catches for 84 yards. Russell finished with 240 yards and 2 TDs
LSU 24, Bama 10

Oh and where have all the Van city hipsters gone? Obviously not the Main Legion on a Wednesday .(hey I got nothing personally against 17 year old coked out girls) Sorry I know its not a Legion. Two years ago, that place was the east van scenester hot spot. But now you are more or less likely to find conscious white hip hop fansand frat girls rather than wonkette readers and Sufjan Stevens concert goers. The Pinch can atest to this as he reported that a group outside was "freestyling". Well never fear I have spotted the lot of them, they appear to be attending Vancouver Canadians games. Apparently Low A baseball fullfills their ironic appetities. More likely they're just looking for a good time and also to see Cubs Million dollar man and 2006 1st round draft pick (at bat below, sorry bad pic, I'm no Anne Leibovitz). Tyler Colvin. The Boise Cubs star was the last out as he was caught looking for a strikeout in a Canadians victory over the 1st place Cubs. Great atmosphere and hahaha hipsters I found you. Oh and 17 year old coked out girls were at the game as well. Ha I'll be back for sure.
