tiger invades home, utep recap, and upset in tucson

Wow that Bama game was nuts! The real one I mean. And Vandy beating Georgia. So I got about 30 minutes until the SC game against Arizona St. so instead of taking a break and walking on the beach I've decided to provide recaps from my Dynasty which I haven't played in awhile. Last night I purchased Tiger Woods 07 and my semi-pro golfer roomate has been hooked on it (notice the Jenga in the photo). He created himself, while I created a teenage girl named Surrey. I still don't know too much about golf, which is why I stink in the game, but the create a player option is pretty sweet.

Anyways as most of you know I've made the move to Heisman, this is the first time I have ever played Heisman in my 8 years of playing the NCAA Football series. I lost my first game to South Carolina 14-34, Spurrier's playbook was tricky. They have this one weird formation with their tackles pulled apart from the rest of the lineman and it tricked me into going for the kill. I got burned on it everytime. Very similar to this old Roy Jones Jr knockout. However after that South Carolina loss I won two games against quality opponents, with a 28-14 win over Arkansas and beating Florida 43-23. In Heisman I learned that you have to concentrate on every play in order to do well. In 07 momentum is huge and whether you like it or not it is a huge factor, thus you have to pay attention to the meter at all times

So off to the UTEP game which was one of the most exciting games I ever played. UTEP came into Tuscaloosa with a 4-1 record and in the words of that retartd Isiah Thomas, "They brought their "A" game". But it was the first game back from injury of my star WR Joel Thompson. And all he did was break the Bama record for REC yards in a game with 237 and 3 TDs. QB Chad Arnold went 18-28 and 343 yards and of course the 3 TDs to JT. Bama pulled off a narrow 23-20 victory. Also in other Dynasty news, OU beat Texas 53 to 7 in the Red River shootout and Arizona pulled off a huge upset against USC. The game was in Tucson and I wish I had more game shots from the USC/Zona game that I went to earlier this year, but I was very drunk so below is a pic from a typical Tucson post party, cheers.

favorite "kiss me lyrics"

okay because my time has lately been consumed by Drinking Jenga, Raptors pre-season hype, and debates as to whether Robin Tunney ( pictured left) is pretty or not (i like the big overbite), I haven't been able to play my Dynasty, which obviously got me thinking, which lyric in the song "Kiss Me" by Nashville's Sixpence None The Richer is my favorite. Popularized by the cinematic masterpiece "She's All That" starring Rachael Leigh Cook as Laney Boggs, Kiss Me remains one of the greatest songs of our time. Clearly the strength of this ballad lies within its lyrics, which are as follows:

Kiss me out of the bearded barley
Nightly, beside the green, green grass
Swing, swing, swing the spinning step
You wear those shoes and I will wear that dress.

[Chorus:]
Oh, kiss me beneath the milky twilight
Lead me out on the moonlit floor
Lift your open hand
Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance
Silver moon's sparkling
So kiss me

Kiss me down by the broken tree house
Swing me upon its hanging tire
Bring, bring, bring your flowered hat
We'll take the trail marked on your father's map

[Chorus (repeat)]

Most would argue that the first line "Kiss me out of the bearded barley" is the best line, while great in its own right, I am going to have to go with "Bring, bring, bring your flowered hat" because thats were the happiness lies within these magical words of wisdom

84 bus = greatest bus in the world

So as most of you know I've made the move to Kitsilano over the last week. Yes I've heard the catcalls of selling out, and jokes about yoga, yuppies, and walks on the beach with my dog ( FYI I don't have a dog). While I do miss all that eastvan had to offer, cheap food, hipster hotties on one gear bikes, thrift store look overload, etc., I find myself coming to work every morning with a little less stress and a bigger smile. As much as I would like to say its because I'm getting laid on a regular basis or getting paid more (hahahaha), its not. In fact I owe my behavior change to the 84 bus.

Anyone who uses the bus system in Vancouver knows that it is a disaster, they come once every 30 minutes, they're packed during rush hour, it smells, the drivers are always angry, and it is honestly slower to get from point A to point B than riding a bicycle. None of these characteristics exists with the 84 bus. The bus is always empty during rush hour, the drivers are friendly, all the riders are aesthetically pleasing, no one begging for change, its clean, it doesn't smell, everyone smiles at you and for some reason it takes me the same amount of time to get from the heart of Kits to Broadway and commercial, as it did to get there from Main and Broadway. For comparison purposes, it takes about 30 minutes to bike from Kits to Commercial, while going there from Main to Commercial takes about 5. In fact its so good that I often turn down rides in favor of riding the 84 bus.

Anyways the #84 has always had somewhat of significant impact on my life. Randy Moss in his Viking days wore 84, Lebron James was born in 84, there was a funny book called 1984 and 84 is also the number of my superstar sophomore WR Brandon Luke of Ravenna, Ohio. He was the #1 overall player coming out of high school in my Dynasty and he has lived up to the hype. Luke already has a 92 overall rating (he did not red-shirt) and he has filled in nicely while #1 WR JR Joel Thompson, has been injured. Below are all his stats since I've made the move to Heisman:

*was 1-1 prior to SCAR game

at South Carolina L 14-34, 7 REC 113 YARDS
at Arkansas #12 W 28-14, 4 REC 51 YARDS (two were key 4th down conversions)
Florida W 43-23, 4 REC 77 YARDS

thankfully Joel Thompson did come back for the non-conference game against 4-1 UTEP, where coming back from an injury he caught 11 receptions for a Bama record of 237 yards with 3TDs in a close 23-20 victory.

why i don't mind the confederate flag

First off I am neither white, black, asian, jewish (contrary to popular belief), hindu, muslim or latino (well uhh maybe there's a little bit in me, but not by choice), therefore I am the utmost authority in all things regarding racial sensitivity. With that being said, one can not play a Dynasty in the SEC and not be aware of the controversy surrounding the confederate flag. Using Bama and playing in the SEC West I play politically correct Ole Miss once a year and that always brings fond memories of their now banned mascot Colonel Reb (my take on the Ole Miss Mascot). However the issue of the confederate flag is an entirely different entity from our ole pal the Colonel. Over the weekend the UAW-Ford 500 took place at the Talladega Speedway in Alabama and though officially condemned by NASCAR, the confederate flag was flying in full effect. While I'm no advocate (c'mon naw, college football best illustrates southern pride with Bama people hating Tennessee people and Oxford people hating Starkville people) of the Stars and Bars I see nothing wrong with this display of so called Southern pride. First off, it allows me to easily identify the people I won't be hanging out with during an SEC tailgate. I admire the honesty, the anti-abolitionist are hard to spot out during a U-dub tailgate. Second public displays of racism at sporting events can be very comical, just look at this effort on behalf of Croatian fans at a soccer match against Italy.

Lastly, until the nation's capital (Washington, not Ottawa) decides to change the nickname of its football team then let dem NASCAR fans wave dem Stars and Bars. American freedom babe (one thing though, wave those flags at football games too, be consistent people). As for my Dynasty, I got Ole Miss on the schedule. I've made the move to Heisman and currently sit at 4-2, I can only play Heisman with a shotgun offence (using Texas TEch or Utah playbook) the CPU D is very fast. I love Bama, but I really wanna start a Dynasty with Texas as Colt McCoy for some reason is becoming one of my favorite real life players.
