kings #2

With yesterday's 6-0 thrashing of the Ottawa Sens, it looks like I'm on pace to hit my 81-1-0 prediction for the Leafs. Also Kyle Wellwood is on track to have well over 200 assists. While the Leafs will always be #1 in my heart, tonight I will be cheering for the L.A. Kings in their season opener against Anaheim. Now wait a second, before you start questioning my loyalty and cursing me like the way these guys flipped out on Matthew McConaughey when he was rooting for Marshall (I'm guessing these are the same type of people who wanted Vince Young to play WR), remember I am, and always will be a Toronto homer. Go Jays, Go Raptors, Go Leafs! As far as the Kings go for this season, they serve as my adoptive 2nd team. Me and a bunch of fellow Leafs fans had a blast at Ducks / Kings preseason match earlier this year and we met some cool people. Plus what better way would there be to stick it to Vancouver Radio Show callers, if Cloutier and Crawford were to have stellar years(damn it, I used a Vancouver word there: 'STELLAR'). Also the Anaheim Ducks are their rivals and they have Chris Pronger and he is a Jerkstore times ten!

In regards to my Dynasty, I've been trying out CL's Heisman sliders with a couple of tweaks. He's been having a blast since he moved up to Heisman, despite a heartbreaking loss to the University of Washington. I only played 2 quarters, but I must say that I love the gameplay. However it will take me awhile to get used to the speed at Heisman level and I don't want to have my Bama team that I built up go 2-10, so I vision a start to a new Dynasty with a Top 25 team by weekend's end. So cheers, the Kings just like my new Dynasty team will serve as my bread to my steak, my Qualye to Bush, my Wennington to Longley, my Scarlett Johansson to my Natalie Portman(yes I was looking for an excuse to insert that pic, yes I did spend 2 hours staring at the photo at work thinking that some cosmic force would make them kiss), basically a great second option.

Go Kings, Kings #2

pac man's birthday and more toronto hate

Ya ya, I know the leafs lost 4-1. So I'd like to change my prediction to 81-1-0. but thats not what I'm upset about, apparently i missed out on Tennessee Titans DB, Adam "Pac Man" Jones's Birthday Ballout. What the heck was I doing sunday night! Now I have no use for my new collared shirt from American Apparel. Oh wait a second, booooo!, It says "Ladies 21 & up" booooooo! Okay back to the Leafs. So I was on the bus and I overheard some kid on his cellphone making plans to catch the Sens / Leafs game and then he goes and says "yo we gotta hook up and watch, because the Leafs suck" (DS can verify this story) . Hahahahaha, I couldn't help but laugh. Wow Canuck fans go out of their way to watch the Leafs lose! ! WOW! I wish I could say the same for my fellow Torontonians, but frankly we don't really care. Actually I take that back, we do care. In fact most of us (those who haven't lived in Van) wish good will upon all Canadian teams. (except Ottawa) Anyways I'll let Riverdale Palm Trees discuss further on this Van city attitude. If you don't feel like reading the whole article, I think this sums up most people's general distaste towards Vancouver,

unlike Vancouver, Toronto does not fancy it to be the greatest city on earth. Far from it, most Torontonians consider it to be light years behind LA, London, and New York, whereas many people in Vancouver consider it to be the one true paradise on earth, or at least in Canada. But there’s a problem with that attitude. Toronto’s inferiority complex causes it to work harder to try to become a world class city, it constantly recognizes its flaws and tries its hardest to make the world notice all the wonderful things the city is doing. But Vancouver sits back, and lets the beautiful mountains, and vast ocean take all the credit for it being such a wonderful city. Oh, yes, there are some lax drug laws, congratulations on that. By not recognizing that there are bigger, better, and more progessive cities in the world, you never move forward, you never spread out.

This point is best illustrated in a little chit chat I had with a good Van city friend of mine, in which she said "if Toronto is so great, how come all of your friends live in different cities around the world, all my friend still live in Van" HA, EXACTLY! All of us who grew up in downtown T.O. have at one point or another lived in another place. Since high school the majority of people I knew always had a desire to explore the world. Just like its a prerequisite to go on the half pipe at Mt Baker, it was pretty much a prerequisite to go backpacking round the world and to live in another Canadian city. Its cool to love your hometown, but not realizing that there is a much bigger world out there, you tend to develop an attitude that youre the greatest shit in the world.

Anyways I still like this city, I mean I love eastvan and the cheap sushi, and most of you van city natives whom I befriended are exempt from this attitude (well most of the time) but going back to that kid on the bus. Watch the Leafs game because you like hockey or because you have Wellwood in your fantasy pool, but don't just simply watch it because "the Leafs suck"

some thoughts

Wellwood and Tucker will be playing with Sundin. Look for Wellwood to have a big year. Kaberle and McCabe will both win a rare split Norris Trophy. Also of note is Alexander Steen playing with Michael Peca on the second line. I predict that Steen will have a 100 point season. The Leafs will also join the 72 Dolphins and the 2003 uconn women's basketball team going undefeated with an 82-0-0 record. I made the same prediciton for the Toronto Blue Jays saying that they would go 162-0, I was only off by 80 or so games.

My Bama team on the other hand, will not go undefeated in the 2010 season They sit at 1-1 having already lost a 16-14 heartbreaker to Clemson. Screw you C.J. Spiller. Anyways here's a preview of my offence, whether you like it or not

Quarteback
No questions here, JR Chad Arnold (part of my first recruiting class)came into the 2010 season with a 95 overall rating and 14-0 record as a starter. Coming from the same town as Helen Keller, Arnold spends his spare time teaching blind kids braille and deaf kids the art of sign language. Great leader indeed. 5 star JUCO stud Travis Spicer a rs-SO, serves as Arnold's prime backup.

Running Backs
The 1-2 punch of Steve Ferguson (87 OVR) and Dominic Coles (85 OVR) return for their sophmore campaign after rusing for over a combined 2,200 yards and 30TDs as true Freshman. JR Transfer Josh Reese (93 OVR) got kicked out of Ohio St and must sit out of year. He'll suit up in 2011

Receivers
In 2008 and 2009, I, errr I mean Joe Namath convinced the #1 WRs in the nation to sign with the tide. Joel Thompson in 2008 and Brandon Luke in 2009. JR Thompson (90 OVR) already had a bad start getting injured in the Clemson game, while SO Brandon Kuke (91 OVR) will serve as the star wideout. At 6'7 200 lbs, I will probably create him and put him on Bama, when I buy March Madness 07. SR Ben Arnold (86 OVR) and K-dub native SO Kenny Thornton 82 OVR, provide decent support. TE's Bryan Mitchell JR (OVR 85) and redshirt FR and Texas native Eric Goolsby (80 OVR) soldify the receiving core.

O-Line
This may be the weak point with only one returning starter, but there is some pride here as all 5 starters are in-state and there are two players from Tuscaloosa.

RT Wayne Hunter, rsSO (82 OVR) Tarrant
- was a 3 star recruit

RG Emanuel Henry, SO (84 OVR) Gelncoe
- also a 3 star recruit but was impressive as a True Freshman

C Casey Maynard, rsJR (86 OVR) Tuscaloosa
- fan favorite and part of 1st recruiting class

LG Tommy Jones SR (90 OVR) Prichard
- 1st 5 star recruit in my Dynasty, was the #2 G out of high school, 4th year as starter

LT Keith Williams rsSR (78 OVR) Tuscaloosa
- a personal favorite because he is a 3 star JUCO, however there are two true FR who have the same rating that will keep him on his toes

D- Preview to come later

go leafs, roll tide

stabby, stabby, & raycroft era begins at 4:30

okay since me and my good friend over at Riverdale Palm Trees have started blogging our NCAA Dynasties we have been deemed by our friends, family, coworkers, and ladies of the nights as lunatics in need of therapy. While their claims are entirely justified, there are people out there who are worse than us. John Rodney Wilson of Athens, GA (hometown of REM) went and stabbed his friend after a fierce battle of NCAA Football on PS2 between Auburn and Tennessee. I mean we've had times in our video game playing history where we've chucked controllers, punched walls and even heckled real life players (haha I'll get into this later) for their performance in video games, but a stabbing was nowhere in our books. Article courtesy of our good friend Warren St. John

In the meantime not much time has been devoted to the bama dynasty because I've been settling into my new place in kits (yes I'm better than all of you) and enjoying some rather interesting flicks at VIFF. Though it makes me sad that for the 2nd year in a row I was not in Toronto for TIFF. Had my mother email me everyday about sipping wine with big time celebs, trying to make me jealous. And it also brought fond memories of when a friend and I went to a big wig party and pretended that Alliance bought our script, man very easy to pick up film chicks. While VIFF lacks the party atmosphere and general city wide buzz that takes over the TDOT during the month of September, its nice to see off beat films and have pretentious people asking stupid questions during the Q & A. Makes me feel at home.

anyways position previews for my 2010 season to come

Add C.J. Spiller to the list

Last week, CL over at Riverdale Palm Trees posted an article about players he hated because of video games. Well I would like to add Clemson's C.J, Sipiller to the list. I'm in the year 2010 in my dynasty and it is the last year which will feature real life players (5th year SRs who are True FR in 2006). Coming off an undefeated season, I decided to play teams that featured real life players, so I scheduled Colorado St and Clemson. Colorado St featured real life Texas QB Jevan Snead, who transferred to CSU in my Dynasty. Bama travelled to Fort Collins, CO to face the 99 ovr rated QB and surprise, surprise, Snead was injured in the 1st quarter. Bama cruised to a 44-7 victory.

Next game was the home opener in Tuscaloosa against the Clemson Tigers. Bama came into the game cocky with a 15 game winning streak. However as the end results would prove, this meant nothing to Clemson SR RB C.J. Spiller(99 OVR). Though his final stats weren't overly impressive (91 yards 0 TDs) Clemson effectively controlled ball throughout the game and Spiller made several key 3rd down conversions. To make matters worse JR WR Joel Thompson dislocated his elbow in the 2nd quarter which will put him out for 4 weeks. Clemson would end Bama's 15 game winning streak with a 16-14 upset. Bama dropped from #3 to #15 in the polls. However Coach Namath and the boys refuse to let this ruin their season. Main goal for now SEC West Title.

In real life, Bama produced a valliant effort but lost to Florida. Those throwback Florida uniforms were pretty sweet. Also I've made the move from Eastvan to Kits and I'd like to apologize for missing the hockey pool draft, but hey I got Raycroft and Sundin, nice!
