another typical friday night: Bama wins

alright, once again spent a friday night working late, and another bus ride on the way back home ease dropping to various kids's cellphone conversations about "how much they're going drink" or "who they want to sleep with". And I don't know if its just that I'm getting older but these kids seem like the loudest ones on the bus. But hey, no hate, just jealousy, I miss those times when I was the drunk kid on the bus going to some random house party. Regardless I've grown up and now spend my off time playing NCAA Football and blogging about it, and man this Friday night did not disappoint.

As usual Arkansas was my 1st SEC opponent and they are always ranked and always undefeated. With SVSW out of the way, it was now time to focus on the SEC West title. And my Defense was sloppy as was my running game. I was down 21-10 at the end of the first half, but the 3rd quarter started with a 105 yard kickoff return for a TD by SR WR Lawrence Curry. Curry (pictured right) was just a two star athlete out of h.s. but he has worked his way to the #3 WR. Definitely a personal favorite of mine. From this point on Terrence Graves took over, throwing for 125 yards and 1 TD, while rushing for 100 and 1 TD against a very tough Arkansas D. K Justin Brooks hit the 2nd game winner of his career for a 31-28 Bama victory. FR Chris Richard was not having the same success as Jason Weaver; he dropped a lot of catches in his 1st SEC game, and a road game too. SR Lawrence Curry, identical SO's Wes Holley and David Wayne all stepped up in the clutch, making Richard's spot as the #2 WR not so certain. But he's okay with that because he's a good guy.

Hopefully Richard will get his confidence back up in a non-conference matchup in Corvallis against Oregon St. Their fans have been giving CL a hardtime on youtube message boards. (Wow 445 views and 12 comments as of post time, people are watching) They are jerks, but in a good way. Nice soundtrack.

Working all weekend but will hopefully get a break to catch the SEC Championship and USC vs UCLA. Oh and the cory infatuation is put on hold as I have a new pseudo celeb crush, just look at my myspace top 5 and for once she's over 18 and not so well known (more on her later)

SVSW 2012: who told them about the spread?

The festivities at South vs. Southwest started well for the Tide. Emanuel Henry won a contest, a shooting range was set up in which both bama and zona fans got to take shots at their favorite Democratic Senator or House Rep and the Nerds won the drinking contest over the soccer team. But after losing the charity ball hockey tournament to Arizona (my wht C Casey Maynard graduated) and being put in a 37.5 point hole, thanks to Lander's impressive victory over the Tide in his Dynasty, things looked tough in my quest to capture the fabled egg.

However with a 45-7 lead going into the 4th quarter, Bama looked well on their way to cover the 37.5 spread on aggregate. The egg was ready to be shipped to Tuscaloosa. The two QB system was put in place and Travis Spicer had thrown 4 TDs to 4 different receivers (FB Dominic Coles, HB Steve Ferguson, HB Seth Sanchez, WR Chris Richard) and Terrence Graves, went 7-8 for 119 yards and even rushed for 31 yards and 1 TD. And the Defense was even more impressive as Zona's pass and run game were dead flast. Justin Abdullah would not be pleased.

But with a 45-7 lead SR John Jones of Tuba City, AZ, who did nothing the whole game, ran a 95 yard kick return for a TD. WTF???????? Someone must have told them about the spread because after that Arizona was a different team. Defamer reported that a plane filled with several Zona grads from 2011 arrived on the sidelines in the 4th quarter, informing the players of the importance of the egg. DT Jamaal Collins gave a speech about his parents that inspired the troops, while Darryl Steltz brought along music legend Kevin Federline with him and the crew did not want to let him down. For the first time in the game, the Cats stopped Bama's offense, then WR Steve Mack, a SO from West Hollywood, made an insane one handed catch on 4th down, to set up a TD. Bama stayed undefeated but once again losses the egg, The spread was not covered.

Alabama 45, Arizona 21
aggregate: Arizona 55. Alabama 52

travis spicer throwing one of his 4 tds, to a wide open seth sanchez

john jones breaking through bama's special teams (understood the importance of the egg)

will hear from this guy in future SVSW games: WR steve mack of west hollywood

eat it wvu & F U pigeons

a snow storm hit vancouver and we survived water-gate 2006 (hahahaha I thought of that one on my own) and for the first time I think I felt at home out here on the west coast. Surviving pseudo disasters (SARS, Eastern Shore blackout, etc.) and 1st snowfalls are Toronto staples. So when I woke up to Ontario-esque snow on sunday morning me and a couple of friends went to the beach and pretty much had a sweet snow day. Very much reminded me of being a kid in toronto, making crappy snowmen and chucking snowballs at birds. Particularly pigeons, I hate those a$$holes. F U Pigeons

So with work hours and fun in the snow I've been distracted from the Dynasty for a bit, but I managed to finally play my game against #7 WVU. And after trying a couple games out on the 360, I realized that Current Gen NCAA is where its at and my WVU game did not disappoint. Holy smokes was I wrong in thinking that QBs would make the difference in this game. This game was all kicking. First off, QB Terrence Graves knocked out any thoughts of a 2 QB system, his stats weren't impressive going 11-16 and 165 yards and 31 yards rushing, but he didn't screw up. There was no need to put in SR Travis Spicer, but he did throw a sweet 30 yard bomb at the end of the 1st half to set up an important FG. Anyways long story, short, my Defense was sick (though it still feels awkward with all the new starters) and my converted Punter Justin Brooks hit two 50 yard FGs, one of which was the Game Winner in a 23-20 Bama victory. Humble FR WR Chris Richard had the first big game of his career with 6 receptions for 123 yards. Richard is featured in this interview,, with his direct opposite, Tampa Thug Jason Weaver.

(sorry for the short update, I really want to finish Season 1 of Veronica Mars 2nite and play my portion of South vs. Southwest, which Landers smoked Bama 34-7, meaning I have to win by 38 points, I want that egg, but I will play the game, as if I didn't know the results of the other game)

reese / arnold, go 1-2 in NFL Draft

This is like seeing your kids go off to college. Very touching day. Josh Reese returns to his home state of Ohio. 6 members of the Crimson Tide were drafted in the 1st round, 12 in total. Most 1st rounders are expected to start. With the 1st overall pick in the Draft, the Cleveland Browns took Reese and signed him to a symbolic 4 year 44.4 million dollar contract with a 10 million dollar bonus. Reese wore #44 at Alabama. The next pick went to San Francisco and they must be pissed with Alex Smith, because they took QB Chad Arnold and signed him to a 7 year 71.8 million dollar contract. Reese came in with an 86 rating, while Arnold had 90!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "CHAD IS FAB" tshirts are already top sellers in San Fran. However I'm most proud of Bernard Quinn who grew up as a poor country boy in Mississippi and now he can buy his family a nice house after signing a 5 year 44.6 million dollar contract. Draft details below:

1-1 Josh Reese HB, Cleveland Browns
1-2 Chad Arnold QB, San Francisco 49ers
1-14 Brandon Luke WR, Carolina Panthers
1-24 Bernard Quinn DT, Cincinnati Bengels
1-25 Jason Parker DE, Chicago Bears
1- 31 Marvin Harrison MLB, Indianapolis Colts
2-44 Joel Thompson WR - Washington Redskins
2-58 Jason Miles CB - Kansas City Chiefs
3-73 Lance Scott FB - Minnesota Vikings
4-97 Seth Bailey DE - Cleveland Browns
6-161 Casey Maynard C - Cleveland Browns
6-171 Bryan Mitchell TE - Jacksonville Jags

LSU QB and NCAA PASS TD record holder, Michael Snyder wasn't picked until the 2nd round where he went to the Vikings (very happy that I will no longer have to play him in college). Bama DT Zach Saint Preux went undrafted but signed a 1 year deal with the Browns, while K Jason Hall who was projected as a 3rd round pick, also went undrafted. His missed FG has blacklisted him amongst NFL GMs. Have fun with the Blue Bombers jerk.
