a tale of three QBs

Making this quick because this UF / Kansas college ball game is pretty sweet and Veronica Mars disc 5 season is calling. Anyways I had a rare day off today and I must say that was worth it to see Dwayne Jarrett perform the way he did with a seperated shoulder. So Dynasty report, I play #7 West Virginia (I'm #2) and they have a sweet QB in JR Mike Forte from Fullerton, PA. Check out his stats

FR 2208 yards 30 TDs; 661 yards rushing, 5 TDs; Freshman All American
SO 2077 yards 32 TDs ; 1115 yards rushin, 8 TDs; 1st Team All American

In those two years of starting, WVU has only one lost. They were undefeated last year but screwed out of the title. As for Bama's situation I am going to have to use speedy Terrence Graves along with pocket QB Travis Spicer (pictured right). Everyone knows I've been a flip flopper when it comes to playbooks but all of last year, West Virginia's playbook was perfect for my team. In my season opener, it did not work so good against Northwestern. So I've been trying out the playbooks of UND, USC and Ohio St. in practice, and UND has the slight edge as I will be able to use my two QB system, while still focusing the offense around Steve Ferguson. But I think the game will come down to the three QBs Forte, Spicer & Graves

I doubt I'll play my south vs. southwest game, but if I do, I am giving myself a 10 point spread and here are the slider codes on heisman

cory's profile and web cred

okay so I've spent a good portion of november trying to figure out Cory's Blogger profile. Is it some alternate reality game like CAthy's Book? (which by the way is very cool)Anyways I finally figured it out

You have to dig a hole to China. Where do you start?

Where do ants go when it rains??

hmmmm part one of the question, I dunno Mongolia? Richmond B.C.? Spadina and Dundas? Why does some L.A. chick want to go to China anyway? I heard its communist. And where in China does she want to go. Hong Kong? Xinjiang Province???? You perplex me Cory!

Part Two: they die, in an ant hill, in the grass. blaaaaaaaahhhh driving me crazy, what are you trying to say Cory, what?

It took me awhile but I finally realized that these aren't questions or some game, but rather some clever way of saying that she's.......

are you ready?.............

are you sure???????

it will blow your mind!!!!!

UNDERGROUND

hahhahahha you rule Cory. I finally get it. By the way she's much taller than I thought. Also her web cred got bigger when she was denied entry into elitist website Wikipedia. Here was the response from wikipedia's factonistas:

There is no evidence that The Cobra Snake is itself a notable website, or that the parties she attends are notable, so all the more there cannot be evidence that she is notable for being on The Cobra Snake or for attending parties.

If she's an internet phenomenon, the internet doesn't really seem to be aware of that.

If the girl actually sticks around, there'll be media, and you can rewrite the article about her then. Does it really hurt that much if the interweb's flavor of the month doesn't automatically get a Wikipedia article? There's something to be said for standards.

anyways wikipedia bites, our wiki (which has hardcore info on me and Lander's dynasties, is so much better)

slow start to season & guns for seniors

okay so we've all seen the UCLA kid get tasered and have heard about 92 year old Kathryn Johnston getting gunned down after shooting three cops. You have some people pointing to these two incidents as prime examples in abusing authority, while others question why campus police and a 92 year old felt the need to have weapons in the first place. Booooorrrrriinnng, if anything these unfortunate events illustrate:

1. how much UCLA sucks: and yes I did make my opinion heard on our generations most important stage, yup a youtube message board

2. the need to better train senior citizens in the use of fire arms. clearly the individual who sold or gave Ms. Johnston (RIP I give kudos for taking out three cops) did not teach her the importance of avoiding retaliation shots after you fire your gatt. We need more gun training for seniors. Bulletproof wheelchairs need to be mass produced. And yes if anything we need to do what C.T. Dirt says on his blog:

"guns deter criminals...seniors are easy prey...seniors with guns are not easy prey...seniors with guns deter criminals! Okay, that riddle is solved!
"

yeessss, oh by the way TCU Sucks, Roll Tide

So back to more important things. In both our dynasties, me and Landers are having to deal with losing some of our favorite players, not only in NCAA history, but in video game history as a whole. In pro-sports games like Madden or NBA 2k, rarely does one have to rebuild or deal with player loses, where one would be able to just sign a guy to a Rick Dipietro-esque contract (for those who don't follow hockey: he signed with Isles for 15 years). Thats the beauty of college sports games and part of the reason why we are going strong in the 6th years of our dynasties.

But Landers seems to be dealing with his Post-Abdullah days much better than I am with my post Bama 2011 grad class. Game wise that is, not emotional, no one could ever replace Abdullah. But in his cupcake game, Landers blew out Utah state 69-3. Bama on the other hand, had a tough time in a road game against midwest nerds Northwestern. First the excuses, I only returned 3 players on offense (all on the OL) and 5 on defense. So while these guys have all the talent in the world to generate a #2 pre-season ranking, they lack game experience. And it showed as I was only able to beat the midwest nerds 24-14. In his first start at QB Graves rushed for 96 yards, but he only threw for 74 and he had 3 INTs. Spicer was decent going 4 for 9 for 60 yards, so I will probably use a two QB system. SR HB Steve Ferguson bailed the team out with a 105 yard 2 TD performance. All the Freshman that saw the field, played well but they are not ready for #7 West Virginia who is up next in Bama's home opener. Credit to Northwestern, but my team just could not execute. Will be making the switch to Ohio St. playbook as it looks I'll focus my offense around Ferguson.

Reese, Arnold, Thompson, Luke, Quinn, Harrison, Parker, we miss you

K Jason Hall, we don't miss you, screw yourself.

graves named starter; sanchez excels in practice

I am working on a detailed recruiting report on my #1 rated class on the wiki, but anyways in the Spring game the Crimson Squad (starters) won 30-20. JR Terrence Graves was named starter after the game an outstanding performance going 6-7 for 80 yards and 1 TD. He was put in, after SR Travis Spicer went 3-13 for 26 yards. Spicer has the tools to be a great NFL QB, but the Linemen weren't blocking for him and the Receivers were dropping his passes. The team clicked with Graves. But Namath to still give Spicer PT if Graves struggles. This situation is unlike the famous Dane Wright / Zelmon deal, as Graves has already proved that he can play well in the clutch

In Septermber we got our first look at all the incoming Freshman and Texas H.S. player of the year, Seth Sanchez (seen above avoiding a tackle by doing a matrix-esque leap) looked sweet. He will play the 3rd down back roll in the offense this year, even though rsFR William Fuller is a higher rated back. Sanchez was recruited as an Athlete and at 6'2 can act as decent WR. He will probably return kickoffs and punts too

Other off-season notes

- converted HB Dominic Coles to FB and he improved by 11 to a 99 overall
- Bama has six new starters on D, including the entire DL
- team will stay with West Virginia's playbook but will also try out Ohio St's
- converted Punter Justin Brooks to K, as no new kicking recruits came in (probably scared because of treatement of Kicker Jason Hall after he missed the FG in the championship game last year)
- top WR is Canadian Kenny Thornton

OU / BAMA recap & racist kramer

okay it was tough, but I've moved on. I recruited the #1 class and all my key seniors will have decent NFL careers. I'm pretty excited about several players, including the state MVPs from Alabama, Texas & Cali. Detailed report to come. But one must learn from his past mistakes, Like Michael Richards (Kramer) should learn from this outburst. Apparently he'll be on Letterman tonight apologizing. Anyways here is a recap of that terrible night in New Orleans

DT Bernard Quinn and QB Chad Arnold at the coin toss for their last ever game in the Crimson and White. Yall both be missed, sho nuff.

TE Eric Goolsby (who seems to be in an unknown booster's pocket) with a key catch here in traffic that set up a FG. Scoring was low in the 1st Half, OU had the only TD (a 91 yard bomb) and they were up 10-6.

If there were a 6th man award in football, it would go to QB Terrence Graves. Several times this year, Graves has come in off the bench to spark the offense with his Vince Young talent. Here Graves is running in for an important 2 point conversion that tied the game at 20. It looked as if K Jason Hall would be the only scorer as Bama found themselves down 20-12. But a pass TD to SR Joel Thompson set up this 2 point conversion

In the dying seconds of the 4th quarter Joel Thompson caugh a pass on a 3rd down to set up a 30 yard GW FG..........

...............Jason Hall who was 4 for 4, kicked wide right sending the game into overtime

OU won the coin toss and Bama was first on offense. Pass play in the spread formation was the 1st playcall and I misjudged dime CB Clifford Cleveland who ran for the national championship winning TD. Above picture is posted in Coach Namath's office as a reminder and for motivation.

Key Stats
Chad Arnold 15-24-219-1-2
Joss Reese 120 yards
Joel Thompson 4-66-1
Brandon Luke 5-82
Harrison "Vegas Sunshine" 7 t, 1 s
OU QB Brandon Davis 119 yards 1 TD, 111 rush yards

WVU ended winning the orange bowl, giving the College Football world two undefeated teams, while Bama finished #3. With Coach Namath's blessing Brandon Luke declared early for the NFL Draft. Despite the loss, the 2011 Bama perhaps jumps ahead of my Leafs in NHL 94 or my Gonzaga Bulldogs in March Madness 2005 as my favorite all time video game team. The Leafs and Bulldogs both won championships, proving that winning ain't everything. Yes that was a chessy line to end this post, but I really loved this team.

p.s. thanks Ohio St for giving me Josh Reese :)

nola heartbreak

this is my 100th post on blogger and this is how the 2011 national title ended in New Orleans. In overtime with a 26-20 Oklahoma victory over Alabama

yes that is SR Josh Reese trying to catch up with dime DB Clifford Cleveland as he returned a Chad Arnold INT for a National Title winning TD. I am not angry but sad. I wanted to do this for the SRs. But K Jason Hall missed an easy 30 yard FG which would've won the game for the Tide. He is no longer allowed in the state of Alabama. More details to come later, I am heartbroken, but proud.

2011 SEC title game update

Out of respect to the Alabama Football program who for the 5th straight year lost the Iron Bowl to Auburn, I could not talk of my 2011 SEC title game. But i think 24 hours has passed and I'm sure Big Al won't mind

Okay first let me state that in my Dynasty the SEC Championships is more important than the National Title, for two main reason

1. I hate the BCS (in real life and in video game life). I was screwed out of the National Title in 2009 and in 2011 it is unfortunate that I won't get to put my team up against undefeated West Virginia or Virginia Tech. As for real life, well either go back to the old system with set Bowl games or go to a playoff. All this talk about who is #2 is silly. Yesterday's Michigan / Ohio St. game lived up to the hype and frankly so would a playoff. And Ohio St. has about a month and half until their next game, hahahahha you are telling me that you can't fit a couple games in between that time.

2. I only really follow the SEC.I am a video game nerd but and I keep track of all the incoming recruits, but only in the SEC. As for looking at scores during the season and comparing stats, I only look at SEC teams. So by the time I faced UGA in the title game I was alreadyt familiar with half their squad and knew how their season went. Adds more drama.

Anyways time for game details in point form

- First off TS watched the entire game, so there was a lot of heckling and a lot pressure
- 1st half was UGA domination. My WRs were dropping passes and my OL stunk. I could not stop their dual threat QB JR Edwin Durfee (I tried to recruit him) UGA was up 14-3 at the half
- I took out LT Paul McCullough and put in New Mexico native Jordan Johnson
- In the 2nd half I needed to do something different so I put in SO QB and scrambling specialist Terrence Graves. And I did noting but run QB draws and spread option runs. I only threw the ball once with him. But he had put momentum in Bama's favor. Back-up HB Steve Ferguson ran in for a TD. UGA's D finally decided to double spy him so I went back to Chad Arnold in the 4th with Bama down 14-10
- On a 3rd and long, JR Brandon Luke caught a TD pass running through 3 defenders, Bama 17, UGA 14
- With 3 minutes to go and on a 4th and long, I played a deep zone, but didn't spy Durfee. He ran in to the 5 yard line. He threw and easy pass to his TE on the next play. UGA 21, Bama 17
- Momentum was in UGA's favor but coach Namath used a short pass game combined with runs up the middle by Reese. After 14 play I found myself at a long 3rd and goal with a minute left
- Pass game was crappy all game put I used a strong formation and called the slants middle play, Joel Thompson blew by his 90+ defender and Arnold hit him for the GWTD
- Durfee began a decent drive, but with only 1 sack the entire season, SR Bernard Quinn had back to back sacks, ending the game and sending BAMA to New Orleans for the national title game against Oklahoma

Notable Stats
MVP Bernard Quinn - 2 sacks and pressured Durfee all day
UGA QB Durfee 238 yards 2TDs, 88 rush yards
Chad Arnold 11-23-147-2-2
Graves 67 yards rushing, 1 pass for 13 yards, changed momentum in Bama's favor
Reese 132 yars
Luke 6-96-1
Joel Thompson 4-50-1

- So that is the highlight of my year regardless of the results in New Orleans, although Oklahoma will be tough as their strength lies in their OL (all are 95+) Otherwise this is a team filled with many underclassmen. WVU playes Virginia Tech, they are both undefeated and it is unfortunate that they will not play the winner of Bama/OU, regardless 2011 SEC champs sounds nice
